Mexico has a way to transport a person back in time in many ways despite being a well-developed and modern country. “Rótulos” are hand painted signs that carry a visitor to a simpler time. Before the existence of electric signs, business owners would often have their store fronts hand painted in lieu of more expensive wood, tile or metal signs. Even with the age of digital printing and the rising popularity of printed plastic signs, some remained loyal to tradition of painted facades. Luckily, this art form is still alive, yet its popularity continues to decline. Enjoy the photo gallery and check back soon as more pics of “rótulos” are to come!
